While my parents were in town we decided to travel to Kyoto for a day and a half, they had never been and Kyoto is a city everyone should visit, if possible. The city is filled with history and culture everywhere you turn, you almost feel like you have stepped back in time. Since Kris and I have been several times my parents told me to choose locations we haven’t seen yet. We visited the Gion district in hopes of seeing a Geisha girl  (we did), the bamboo grove, and then finished by taking them to Kiyomizu-dera.  Everyone should visit this historic temple when in Kyoto!

I loved walking the small narrow side streets in Gion, they almost felt magical. We stood in a busier area of the geisha district for awhile to try and catch a glimpse of a geisha heading to work, and we saw several! It was such a neat experience and something I could never experience back home. The girls are dressed in the most beautiful kimonos and hair pieces, and we could only wonder how long it took them to get ready.

The Bamboo grove, Tenryu-ji Temple, and Iwatayama monkey park were all located in the  Arashiyama area and were probably my favorite part of the day. The bamboo grove was stunning. I suggest getting there early before the tour buses arrive, we arrived around 9 and took some breathtaking pictures!

The hike to see the monkeys was probably the hottest and most humid hike I’ve done. Feeding them and seeing a sweet little baby was well worth it.

Kyoto will always be one of my favorite cities.

Thanks for stopping by!
